“The Swamp Boogie Queen” was famed for her two-fisted piano playing, blending boogie woogie, blues, and soul. Her keyboards were matched by her sassy, soulful vocals and larger-than-life persona. As a teen, she was the Louisiana bayou’s most in-demand session pianist, and then joined Otis Redding on the road. Years later, she cut three Alligator albums of rocking, good-time, soul-drenched music.
