REVIEWS

"Hard. It's psychedelic and chunky brutal death, that doesn't hesitate to leave the genrebox and experiment. Squawky pinch harmonics abound, and the songs rapidly careen through a wide variety of riffs, keeping this interesting and engaging without fully devolving into shallow riff salad. I'm very into the psychedelic elements that permeate the album, from ping pong delay panning to trippy compositional choices... it's something I've not heard done like this within the brutal death metal context. It's heavy and brutal with plenty of breeeee, but it's also thoughtful and nuanced and progressive, with lots of surprising layers and inclusions. There's an Indian influence sprinkled throughout, even going so far as to include a track that's entirely traditional sounding ethnic Indian instrumentation and composition. It's not just a gimmicky static atmosphere like a lot of other bands would include, but a fully fleshed out composition with motion and dynamics. Super fucking cool. I'm really impressed."

"With Yantra Creating, 7 H.Target does more than offering us another Brutal Death Metal album. Because the band places airy elements and Indian influences between its heavy and groovy riffs, making this album a real musical UFO."

"There comes a time after listening to enough of the more extreme forms of metal that it may feel as if you have truly heard everything. Some bands stick with what is now considered a classic sound to great success (see Obituary's latest) which can be great, but the genre needs innovation too. Enter 7 H.
I'm not even sure how to accurately describe this album in a concise manner, but heavy, brutal, off-kilter, and unpredictable all come to mind. 7 slaying tracks of technical and experimental brutal death metal mixed with influences of Indian music. I could never accurately assume the direction we were headed. I can't help but feel Willowtip is the absolute best landing spot for them to rest in the history books next to label alums Defeated Sanity, Ulcerate, and Gigan.
I'm not saying traditional slam or BDM is a bad thing, as many of them make serviceable to great music. However, I am saying, until proven wrong, there is only one 7 H. This album works very well on its own merit and level without crossing into something it isn't. This is not Obscura by Gorguts, or a Portal album full of dissonance to decipher through. You wouldn't necessarily need a degree in music theory to understand the music, though it wouldn't hurt. For every Cannibal Corpse and Vader out there, plus the legions of bad imitators, there are very few bands that will attempt something new with this level of success. If we want our genre to survive and thrive in what is now its fifth decade of existence, albums like Yantra Creating deserve your full attention and support."
