Lovingkindness practice has been pioneered by Sharon Salzberg. Lovingkindness cultivates our innate capacity for unconditional compassion. The phrases serve as anchors to bring us back to a state of lovingkindness towards ourselves and others no matter what the circumstances are. This can be done in a formal sitting practice or even casually throughout your day. *Keep in mind you may not feel lovingkindness for yourself or others while you do this practice. You may in fact feel the opposite - if or when you do, as best as you can, bring a sense of gentleness and lovingkindness to whatever arises. It is perfectly okay to start where you are.
