Dearth by Dearth of Earth

This album was inspired by guitar loops and melodies I stumbled upon over the past few years. It began with four original songs all created on a loop pedal, and slowly developed into experimentation with self-recording my music. I began recording and writing the remaining pieces in January of 2017.

I have long wanted to make an instrumental project that is emotionally expressive and plays with polyrhythm. This marks the first project in this vein. The title "Dearth" was inspired by its old english root, meaning dear or precious.

I could not have produced this album without the help and support from my family and friends. Thank you for sharing music with me, and for reminding me what is important in this world.

Dearth of Earth was founded by drummer and songwriter Matt Johnson, beginning as a solo recording project and outlet for song writing and experimentation. The band now includes Morgan Thomas and Jon Ramanujam on guitars and Rocky Schofield on Bass.
