Following on from the popular African Lounge Experience, Unmapped offers the sophisticated grooves of Afro-beat meeting the sensual pulse of lounge music to create the perfect backdrop to any African journey.
The Africa Lounge Collective, Garrick van der Tuin and Joel Klein, are renowned in the music industry—Joel as a celebrated songwriter and guitarist and Garrick as an experienced engineer and producer—for some of the best in the country like Miriam Makeba, Yyvonne Chaka Chaka, Malaika and Jabu Khanyile. For this album, they enlisted talents from Dakar to Durban to contribute to an album so divinely smooth and satisfying that listeners will have it on repeat. “We’ve chosen some amazing people to contribute to this album like vocalist Malebo Mothema, trombonist Siya Makuzeni and Fana Zulu on bass to name a few,” says Joel adding, “ we sing in languages like Wolof, Sepedi , Osivambo and French on the album making
it truly border-crossing.”
Laid back, atmospheric and divinely relaxing, the tracks thrill the senses with melodic rhythms that speak of Africa but yet still retain a continental feel. Garrick says, “A wide blend of pan-African influences are at work on this album. We’ve captured a popular lounge music sound but with African flavor and modern grooves.”
Funky and fresh, the music is all about letting go and allowing the music to take you away. The result is a vibrant journey that seamlessly moves through hypnotic rhythms and heartfelt melodies allowing you to discover the art of chilling.
