"Demb” is a cover of a song composed by Senegalese singer Youssou N’dour. Althea daraws from a performance Ndour gave with innovating Senegalese kora player Soriba Kouyaté on Gorée Island, Senegal. In addition to Althea’s kora and vocals, the piece features Rossyl Esdras Boussamba Linguissi on bass and Jeffrey A. Jones on percussion.

Althea SullyCole is a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and ethnomusicologist originally from New York City, currently based in Montreal, QC, where she is Assistant Professor of Ethnomusicology at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University. Althea studied her primary instrument, the kora, a 21-stringed West African harp, under korists Yacouba Sissoko and Edou Manga.
