Very, very occasionally a band makes it sound like a pop song could be something done by anyone with minimum effort. The arresting opening, the seamless slip from verse to chorus, the hook and the brevity that makes you want to play it again. AM Reruns, a band so few people have heard of it’s almost criminal, do this better than almost anyone.

An alchemical three-piece able to turn their favourite rock and roll into something new and vital, the band could have come from late sixties London, early eighties New York or mid-nineties Manchester. Unfortunately for AM Reruns, they exist in Melbourne in 2019 when competition for attention is fierce and the chances of them getting the audience they deserve are slim. Fortunately for you, you’ve picked up their debut album and are about to find out what makes them so remarkable.

The combination of Andy Campbell’s wry vocals and stinging guitar, Daniel Parsons-Jones surging bass and Pamela Zaharias’s brawny rhythms are so fresh they feel almost miraculous. Sounds may age, but a good song evolves, so whether you’re picking up this album in 2019, 2029 or 2039, AM Reruns will sound new. Occasionally you can come across a band who can do this. Very, very occasionally.
