LOSING AND FINDING
The search begins as a curiosity in youth and blooms into the quests for bold adventures in the prime of life, yet within the folly of ignorance is sewn the seeds of decrepitude as the justifications for these foibles become less endearing with age. What can be excused as the innocence of inexperience seems less appealing when desperation born of failure scours the soul, leaving the scars of pain as etches and cuts against the patina. Worn through time, the sheen gives way to a duller luster, pleading for another chance to fulfill that potential which has gradually drained from the vessel as the leaks multiply within its form. What is left in the end is more a sieve than a container, allowing opportunity to drain away rather than contain it. Vainly, seniority is still revered as being holy, but in truth, it is merely full of holes.

I ONLY WANTED TO FINISH THE COMPOSITION WITH A MINIMUM AMOUNT OF EFFORT WHICH I HAVE DONE VERY SUCCESSFULLY
This recording utilizes automatic mixing techniques which involve setting up a complex array of modulated effect parameters that are programmed to generate cyclical or random configuration changes during the course of playback. Because of the unpredictable nature of these configurations, no consistent end mix result can ever be produced. Any time a mix is output from the multi-track digital workstation, the results vary depending on the modulation positions within the cycles of the automation loops. The following audio components were used for the creation of this piece: a four track ports-studio C-60 cassette with a 1988 soundtrack for an installation exhibition which was captured on a standard cassette deck at half speed and with two tracks reversed, an ambient stereo synthesizer recording from a ports-studio cassette recorded in 1995 which was captured at half speed. Photographic materials: “Search” statue at Devonian Harbour Park (September 20, 2021), flowers at Stanley Park Rose Garden (April 22, 2021), sculpture detail at Roundhouse Mews (March 10, 2021), water reflecting in Coal Harbour (April 12, 2021). This is the eighth and final title in the “wellows” series.

Walking with the broken rocks upon the heaving thrust of mountain echoes, movement becomes challenged. Something may have taken hold here, but its residue has since faded into the dust of winds long blown away. Though memory shards crack and splinter through the ice age history once foretold, there are now no more than fragments upon a beach receding beyond the breaking waves.
