Cantamora from Encantadas by An Danzza

We travel to Usagre, where it is said that on the night of Saint Blaise, a half-human, half-fish
woman named Cantamora sings her sorrowful melodies at the Fuente de la Luná. Long ago, in the
13th century, she was simply a young woman in love. She was the daughter of an Arab warden and
was only allowed to leave the castle once a month to fetch water from the Fuente de la Luná. One
day, she met a Christian man and fell deeply in love. From then on, she eagerly awaited each
opportunity to see him. Her growing excitement, singing, and cheerful demeanor made her father
suspicious. When he discovered the truth, he was enraged and ordered the young Christian’s
execution. That same night, the moon revealed the tragedy to the Moorish woman. Devastated, she
ran from the castle and threw herself into the spring’s waters, which swallowed her whole.
