Wake / Rise by Andrea Mazzariello

This long piece strings four songs together, moving from an awakening of sorts in the aftermath of the 2016 US presidential election, through conflict, then to its complicated reconciliation. I tried to work at the edges of the songs, blurring one into the next. The Southeast Minnesota Arts Council supported the piece's creation.

Andrea Mazzariello (he/him) is a composer, performer, writer, and teacher.

He teaches composition at Carleton College, directs the composition program at the Sō Percussion Summer Institute, and mentors young musicians at The Key, a youth services organization in Northfield, MN.
