You could probably leave me on the ground.
I'd survive a little while.
My skin is tough as finger nails
and I'm brighter than your smile.

I'm an awkward shape for predators
with sharp teeth and tiny hands.
They'll nibble nibble at my outer shell
and devour what they can.

And you might let me know
what it's like to be alive
or to be filled with light.

I'll scare away the worst of fears.
No monsters in your house.
Just let me rest on your front steps.
I'm happy in or out.

You'll never have to water me.
I'm tied to the tides of time.
I hope you'll find a use for seeds
you find I leave behind.
