Unrest by Angular
The second Angular record, Unrest, was recorded in Coffs Harbour, South London and Paris between March 2011 and September 2012, and mixed in Coffs Harbour between July and October 2012. It was released on 4 February 2013.
Drawing influence from the after-dark streetscapes of Park Beach and illegal suburban raves of West Coffs, the record’s sonic palette references Detroit techno, deep house, IDM and tripstep. Encapsulating the sense of danger and possibility gleaned from crawling grimy backstreets at sundown as house parties grow ever more violent and backyard meth production hits full swing, Unrest combines a confident, street-smart swagger with the bleakness of contemporary dystopian landscapes and the ever-simmering threat of disaffected youths looking to dismantle society’s fabric. As a body of work, it is united by the common thread of the titular characteristic, and deals with the present state of urban social decay while looking ahead to a future where the situation has the distinct potential to spiral out of control.
