Intergalactic from Make Belief by Anmara
Intergalactic is a song inspired by my friend Gabriel Allan taking his life unexpectedly.
Some of you may know this boisterous, hilarious, spirit-seeking soul.
When he dated my roommate, I spent snowed-in mornings walking down to him strumming his guitar and crooning with Elvis flair, which we followed up with pancakes and riotous laughs.
When he lived with my best friend, I halfway moved in and happily traded jibes with him as he took off his boots, muddied with adventure and construction work.
I knew he had traveled the world seeking healing and awakening. I had no idea he was locked in a death struggle with dark emotions too hideous to share with his community.
He felt himself an accursed soul and as his light faded away, he planned his own beautiful funeral for us all to stumble to, confused and wondering at the puzzle pieces he left behind.
I wrote this song around then, my subconscious mind groping blindly at the movie Interstellar (recommend!) as a metaphor for where his soul might have got to and why he couldn't stay on this planet another day.
In many traditions, you must pray so a soul doesn't get lost in the darkness crossing over. So I imagined him in an interdimensional wormhole, on the way to a heavenly place where he will find the peace he couldn't find here on Earth.
