Ochun from Light by Anna Ling

Ochun - the Orisha of fresh water, fertility, and love in Yoruba and diasporic traditions like Santería and Candomblé - has inspired countless songs within her traditions and beyond (see Beyoncé’s Hold Up as a prime example).The chorus of Ochun, are in an old Yoruba dialect, preserved in South American singing traditions, carried over from Nigeria through the horrors of the slave trade.
The vocal runs and lead guitar lines trace the shapes of running water, linking verses that sing to a love for our rivers, and a chorus praising Ochun. All proceeds made from this song go to a grassroots charity called Hope Spring, who provide clean water to people in need in Nigeria.
