Lyrics

When the train comes along, Lord
Gonna meet you at the station
When the train comes along.

A railroad train—a new one—has become Time,
Which carries passengers, both poor and rich.
Run, see this wonder—but all this in your mind
Because this is a parable regarding you.
We sit in the train cars—
The locomotive is Time.
It carries millions of people,
And it runs as if on coal, struggling…

When the train comes along etc..

Each train is a second
Each station is a generation
Each platform is an hour
Each train is a year.
The ticket that you hold in your wallet—
This is your fate, your itinerary,
Your destination, and in which class.
This is determined by God, the train director.

When the train comes along etc..

At the train stations, they ring a little bell.
The conductors jump off.
The passengers run, each one with his luggage.
Many come on and many get off.
And if they tell you to get off, don’t negotiate.
Even though you are not a very old man.
Your ticket has expired, and you cry, for nothing.
So has decided God, the train director.

When the train comes along etc..
