KATE TIME from Unsweetened by Arch Rockfeller
A really nice, powerful yet relaxed performance by Tobias on drums propels this song along.
The title comes from a print interview with Kate Pierson of the B-52's, which was prefaced by the author saying that it hadn't been easy to schedule - that "Kate Time" was hard to come by.
I instantly thought: that would make a great title for a song I was working on, about a local Queen Bee who could sometimes be seen holding court at the Rex while admirers competed for her attention.
Scott Vernon, whose clear and tuneful tenor was heard on several songs on my previous record "Northern Perspective" makes a return appearance on this one, his backing vocals featuring prominently along with Aurora's, with a cameo from Courtney towards the end.
It's odd that the guitar solo sounds like a wah-wah; in fact no pedals were used.
Trivia: For the opening fill, I asked Tobias to do something along the lines of what Fred Coury plays in the middle of Arcade's "Dancing With The Angels".
