The stillness of night fills the room. Light from a blood-red moon spills through the window, imbuing the walls with an unnatural, menacing quality. The air is thick. Sleep comes, but rest evades you. You flail weakly beneath sodden bedsheets, trembling at the presence of something ... other.

Suddenly, a caress, the faintest whisper of a touch, spreads gooseflesh up your thigh. A mere graze--loving, yearning, but ... wrong. Devoid of warmth. Of feeling. Of life. Like being fondled by crumpled paper. You recoil, but something within you stirs nonetheless. Trapped in a state between consciousness and slumber, you reach out in longing, desperate to know its eldritch embrace. And it obliges. Oh God, it obliges ...

As the first sickly rays of dawn pass the windowsill, you open swollen, bloodshot eyes. Your bed glistens in the morning light. Surely an illusion. Your knuckles dig out the last vestiges of sleep, but still the sight remains. An ichor, running down the headboard, oozing between your toes. Then, as you rise a daze, you see it. Slithering into the corner where day has yet to intrude, it pauses, just for a moment. Light strikes the baseboard, and it is gone.
