Shorts is a new compilation challenging artists on our label to deliver a fully formed piece of instrumental music in under a minute.

Brevity is not necessarily the first thing we think of in terms of instrumental music - a genre where grand ideas are allowed to grow and breathe. But at a time when attention spans are growing ever shorter, artists often find it harder and harder to convince listeners to stop and allow a piece of music slowly build and take them on a journey.

Shorts asks if composers can have to best of both worlds, writing music that does create space and a story as quickly as possible. By placing such a tight restriction on composers for this release, they were forced out of their comfort zone. Across nine tracks, the compilation sees a range of approaches taken, with composers finding ways to quickly build a world and deliver emotional heft, despite the time constraint.
