a nightmare
to recognize
a blank stare
there's something off
this isn't right
it's lifeless and bare
the paint runs before it can dry
what a kindness to share
heaven's underneath the sky
like i care
about a world that isn't mine

i draw the shades so i don't have to see
life passing by the window
it's clear as day, and i know
it's pointless asking
it's taxing to hope
it's hopeless to get up and
it's getting old
i'm sick of the sight of the world
as it's sicknesses grow
but i know you know

so what's it like
feeling happy in the sunlight?
i'd like to give it a try
but can you tell me if i'm doing this right?
it's a long way
and it's lonely
but it's fine

am i lying through my teeth, or is it something else?
how can i crawl out from underneath the light?
what am i waiting for? some truth you've yet to tell?
that it's part of a plan? this endless climb?

that it'll be alright?
it's not supposed to be
and it won't pass with time
i'm sick of listening
i'm sick of the lie

i see fruit rots on the vine
we go hand in hand
into the mist
as it puts out the fire
dreaming of the land
leeching out
of the catch that's dead on the line
the truth's buried in sand

i don't want to love
i don't want to hate
i don't want to see my kingdom come
i don't want to wait
i don't want to see the sun
