marching up the hill and back
counting on each other's ass
and counting all the dead one's ash
singing songs for people past
and people present future tense

but i was born
two thousand years too late

and i wish i was theodore
riding up those cuban hills
wandering dakota plains
with mountain top bearing my face
carry country on my back
drifting down rivers unnamed
build a fleet to keep the sea's
and give my word to those i meet

but i was born
a hundred years too late

with no map left blank

and i wish i was roman too
i'd lead a legion overseas
i'd count the battles that i've won
and give commands to those below
and give my thanks to gods above
drink the wine of my good deed
and hope for peace, prosperity,
and love for me and those i love

to parents that did all they could
gave me food and gave me warmth
gave responsibility
to live a life from 9 to 5
find a wife and have 2 kids
and mow the lawn on saturdays
retiring to what i've saved
