notes by Hal McGee:
On January 8, 2026 I digitized the copy of Zones that Richard Franecki sent to us at Cause And Effect in 1985. The cassette is marked as “Master”, and it is the tape that Debbie Jaffe and I used to duplicate copies whenever we received an order for it.
I played the cassette on a Tascam 202MKVII deck, through a Xenyx mini-mixer, and transcribed directly into Audacity.
I have tried my best to capture the sound and feeling of listening to the cassette as you might have heard it in 1985.
As you listen, you can look at a scan of the original cassette cover (included with the purchase of a download).
The Cause And Effect 1985 reissue cassette cover was designed and laid out by Debbie Jaffe.
Cassette Art Classics features classic DIY tapes of homemade music from the 1980s and 90s at affordable prices. All archival issues are authorized by the original label or the artist.
