Beauty Sleep by Olivia Louvel
Bats, fox and birds form the animalist backdrop for her fifth studio album created in virtual rural isolation, in the West Sussex countryside under the 'shed'. 'Beauty Sleep' sees her returning to a song format after her abstract composition 'oฬ, music for haiku'.
'Beauty Sleep' conveys through 11 tracks, cinematic spirits, shamanic visions, rituals with the spirit of Yma Sumac (the 1950's soprano of exotica music) appearing as a lost woman in the forest of hallucination ('But You Know'). Tripping through a field of pop surrealism. A bird-woman, revealing her claws, impersonation, perhaps a black crow queen...
