In summer of 2002 when visiting Prague I stumbled upon a shop of antique curios and collectibles near Charles Bridge. In amongst the boxes of dusty old literature was the beautiful theatre program pictured across from a 1902 Opera production of the story of the Rusalka. A siren like character from Slavic mythology, similar to the banshee or Nix ( Germanic shapeshifting water spirits ), the Rusalka was said to have lived at the bottom of rivers where at night she would appear on the banks of the river to dance and sing mesmerizing men with her beauty and leading them to their death at the riverfloor.
