George Floyd by Chris Dowding & Laure Van Minden

The first track of 'Black Lives Matter' - a collaboration between Norwich-based trumpeter Chris Dowding and artist Laure Van Minden.

These pieces are developed from a starting point of playing the names of people who have died or been attacked in relation to the Black Lives Matter movement. We have translated the name into a melody using an alphabet system I use with the band Natural Causes, which is then developed into a track using loops and electronics.

We felt the need for a sustained reflection on and examination of the current situation in the US, UK and elsewhere...

Trumpeter Chris Dowding and artist Laure Van Minden are both based in Norwich.

'Black Lives Matter' is their first full duo collaboration project. It commemorates people who have died or been attacked in relation to the Black Lives Matter movement, through playing their names.

This uses an alphabet system invented by Devon-based composer Hugh Nankivell.
