Julian Cole by Chris Dowding & Laure Van Minden

The tenth track in the 'Black Lives Matter' collaboration between Norwich-based trumpeter Chris Dowding and artist Laure Van Minden.

A track perhaps reflecting a night-time atmosphere, perhaps before the attack on Julian Cole, perhaps including the screams, cries, and tears of a no-input mixer.

A faux drum ensemble phase an insistent rhythm...

Laure:

"I found the track difficult to listen to, maybe because the incessant trumpet puffs of air reminded of Julian’s quick breaths escaping him…"

Laure:

"Looking at both drawings retrospectively, I can’t help but see Julian’s shattered spine and police oppressiveness in the grey shape (blue background drawing)."

Trumpeter Chris Dowding and artist Laure Van Minden are both based in Norwich.

'Black Lives Matter' is their first full duo collaboration project. It commemorates people who have died or been attacked in relation to the Black Lives Matter movement, through playing their names.

This uses an alphabet system invented by Devon-based composer Hugh Nankivell.
