Philando Castile by Chris Dowding & Laure Van Minden

The twenty-first tracks of the 'Black Lives Matter' collaboration between Norwich-based artist Laure Van Minden and trumpeter Chris Dowding.

Neither of July's tracks feature trumpet or any other brass instruments. Distorted electronics describe our anger. A keyboard slow moves through Philando's name melody.

Another laptop synth scatters notes around the melody...

Laure:

"I had in mind a palpable tension...with the policeman menacing Philandro with his taser gun...a kind of electricity in the air.."

Chris:

"I think the electronics reflect that electricity in the air."

Trumpeter Chris Dowding and artist Laure Van Minden are both based in Norwich.

'Black Lives Matter' is their first full duo collaboration project. It commemorates people who have died or been attacked in relation to the Black Lives Matter movement, through playing their names.

This uses an alphabet system invented by Devon-based composer Hugh Nankivell.
