Comity by Christopher Nemeth
The music in this debut album is about coming together in a spirit of
comity, much as we did in the Van Gelder studio in May 2024.
Some pieces are personal. Vivienne was my adoptive mother whom we lost too soon. Never Child is for those who wanted, but don’t have, a child. Xochimilco captures the grace of that Mexican village with canals and barges festooned with flowers carrying people enjoying food, drink, each other, life. We’ll Make a Way affirms the African American community’s tradition in the face of adversity to “make a way out of no way.” Other pieces create a mood in a time and place that I invite you to enjoy and share with others, in comity.

Chris Nemeth’s career includes years in parish choirs that led him to take up bass guitar, add contrabass, and later compose and arrange original works. He has studied with bassist Jim Cox, composer and drummer David Jennings, composer and bassist Ike Sturm, and faculty members at TriTone jazz workshop. He founded the ensemble Second City Jazz n 2008 and continues to perform as its bassist
