Original Notes By Candy: Studio welcomes a new Cousin Silas album! Quite a remarkable album at that! Short Stories, a wonderful suite of 30 short, but absolutely complete, musical pieces. Composed in various styles, and with his mainstay of instruments, guitar, synth, and keys, Silas has woven what I suspect is a lovely trip down memory lane.
The music is excellent! Every bit of it. Nothing new in that! And definitely reflects the multi talents of this prolific ambient composer /guitar maestro, who just released his 200th album on our friend label, Weareallghosts!! (weareallghosts.bandcamp.com/album/unlimited-boundaries-waag-rel114)
The pieces are light, dark, and somewhere in between. The three tribute piano pieces for Wolfgang Gsell are especially beautiful. Soft piano ballads, very tasty guitar pieces, deep, meditative synths, darker synths laden with even darker sounds, even a drum solo. Nicely varied, well placed, to keep the sounds flowing.
I would consider this one of the artist's best collections. (Among the many.) The title may be understated, short and sweet; the music is definitely not.
