CRYSTAL INNz decided to hit the All Tomorrow’s Parties, I’ll Be Your Mirror event in Asbury Park, NJ. They were there to see Swans, Earth, Foetus, Public Enemy, The Pop Group, and Mark Ribot. They missed Thinking Fellers.
Highlights included supplying Sir Richard Bishop with American Spirit Blues, restraining themselves from screaming, “JIMMY JAR-MOOooooo!” when Jarmusch passed, and dodging housekeeping to protect their equipment.
After watching some of a famous indie darling's set, they made their way to see Awesome Tapes From Africa at Asbury Lanes. At this point, the famous indie darling's drummer entered the bowling alley. He literally stole a fresh Jack & Pepsi from Rollo. Disgusted, the quartet returned to their filthy hotel in Neptune to record a PORTABLE MATEWAN.
Track 12? They're still at a loss as to how this poor girl got busted and they didn't.
“Bloody Bed Bugs Inn” a review and some perspective
The worst motel I have seen in my life. The bed and pillows were full of bed bugs. It took us just several minutes in the bed to be bitten by dozens of the insects. We turned on light, and discovered at least a hundred of the bed bugs of different sizes running all over the sheets and pillows. We killed some, and all of them were already full of our blood. I called the manager, and he said he could offer no other room because they were fully booked. It was 1 a.m, and we had no choice but to demand our money back, and leave immediately. What surprises the most - the administration was completely aware of their bed bugs problem, but still were selling the rooms hoping to get some bucks from the fools who would spend a night there. Our trip was completely ruined: instead of the weekend on the shore, we were driving back home all night, and now all covered with the red rush of bites. I can go on and on also with describing old and half-broken room with the half-rotten carpeting, outrageously impudent check-in lady, very rude manager at check-out, but I will just warn you: stay away!!!
