The day democracy almost lost and cruelty almost won.

I'll stay out of politics for years,
hoping for the best,
fearing the worst with all my fears.
How did it come to this?
People feel betrayed in every way.
They don't trust their neighbors no more,
they hide behind closed doors.

Whispering voices blow in the wind,
A silent cry, wondering why?
Traditions are gone,
Good manners, a thing of the past.
It sounds sad, but maybe it won't last.
I still believe in a better tomorrow,
Even if it feels far away.
I won't stop living,
I won't give up today.
I won't run away

Even though it's hard,
I'm caught in the middle,
waiting for this nightmare to fade away.
And start smiling on a good day
