True Believer

I’ve seen edens and idylls
All come to tears
I’ve heard meaningless monologues
From the black mouths of caves

And I’ve explored symbol after symbol
But I still can’t write my name

Or explain how it is I don’t believe what I see
I’m still waiting for truth as seen on TV

See I’ll fight them on land
And I’ll fight them at sea
And I’ll fight them because they’re not me

So I breach and I preach
And I scream activated
After every bad lesson that I’m taught or I teach

Bring on the special commissions
To prosecute the air
So filled with bad faith and the faithless inspectors
Of every dark utterance under the sun

Jump up, to the height of absurdity
But it’s all in good fun
Fight ya back, yea right into history
Ya better run

My view is restricted
But not my opinion
I’m not moved in the least
By the truth as projected
On the face of some buildings
No not in the least

Instead I’ll swoon to the poison
Like it’s cherry elixir
Brought to me
By some fancy armada

See I’ll fight them on land
And I’ll fight them at sea
And I’ll fight them
Because they’re not me

I’d be kneeling in power
If not for my bad knee
Cuz I feel resurrected
Though I’m still as an owl
Or a true believer
Who’s been shot in the back
