Matter

So she hits the street walking
Destination unknown
She just needs some air in her lungs
Not being breathed by people she knows
She says her life is this window
Crunching under her feet
Before it broke into twelve million pieces
She was invisible

And she screams, “I wanna matter!”

Maybe it’s all for a reason
Maybe it’s part of the plan
Maybe we’re given the tools and the will
We do the the best we can
She’s been neglected and broken
She’s been cut to the bone
While the world writes her off again
The fire in her gut it grows and it grows

And she screams, “I can love!”
And she screams, “and be loved!”
And she screams, “oh God I wanna matter!”
