All songs by Diane Patterson
except Raven, by Marca Cassity
Thanks and blessings to these stellar musicians who’ve joined me and the songs, at home and abroad, in studios both fabulous and humble, wherever you may be. May these songs and recordings be worthy of your expertise and devotion.
::
Thanks to Ani and Nappy
for hosting us and most of this recording in your
New Orleans home studio.
::
All Blessings and Thanks to Martín Prechtel
for massive inspiration in the making of this record, with stories that seep into my lyrics.
Thanks for teaching us to put our little feet on a path toward deep grief and praise. May these songs and the singing of them feed and re-member the holy Ones who feed us.
Thanks Martín — wonderful teacher, author, husband and father — for stories of the boog - the sacred deer, of ancient Mongolia, of rich nomadic life on the steppe, with music, beloved and terrifying life-giving animals, holy Altai mountains where one respectfully dare not tread,
mare’s wine,
whose intoxication
makes the drinker laugh,
and never fight,
and so much more.
::
Thanks to Marca Cassity
for granting me permission
to record her
mighty medicine song, Raven.
While this record was being made,
LaDonna Brave Bull Allard was
doing her part at Standing Rock, as the owner of the land where the DAPL pipeline defiles the Missouri River, to co-lead a movement based on non-violence, on prayer, and on a deep respect for the land and water that goes beyond what we were ever taught in this lost culture but which is LIFE to us. We know it when we see it, and who can blame us for walking toward it. Thank you.
Sacred Stone Camp
burns an ember bright.
Be kind, stay in prayer,
stay non-violent
::
Thank you dear seed-planter and teacher Rowan White
for these words:
Stand with the water,
Where true power lies
::
Thanks to
my beloved Sheba,
my baby loves love,
without whom
none of this would be
quite so shimmering,
