Matt LaJoie is a musician living and working in the metro area of Portland, Maine. His prolific career stretches back almost two decades, with the founding of the psychedelic folk project Cursillistas. In recent years, Matt has released dozens of solo and collaborative works, often on his own Flower Room imprint. His projects range from celestial new-age musings (Starbirthed), hazy psych-rock (Herbcraft), and blissful solo guitar explorations under his given name.
From Matt: "All of my solo LPs have had a particular element as the originating source of inspiration, and Mother Hum is intended to act as the bridge between the "earth" element album (Red Resonant Earth), and the "air" element album (forthcoming in 2023). The "mother" is, indeed, nature itself, and the hum refers to the resonant frequency of the earth: the yin energy that is imbued in all things that take life and form upon this planet. It's echo is in the buzz of the cicada, the rush of the river, the whipping winds of the mountaintop, the "om" of meditation. These are the environments and frequencies that the music is intended to evoke, mirror, and honor. The cover painting I created for the album is my version of the Yoni Yantra mandala, a prayer to the divine feminine and an invitation for this energy to become more present in our consciousness and our world. Our survival as a planet is dependent upon a correction of the extreme imbalance that has been the norm for too long. May we see, feel, and heal together in truth, as a collective sprung from a singular source."
