The Lonely by Domini Forster
Domini Forster’s second solo album The Lonely is an intricate, melancholic folk dream – a work at once both cinematic in its depth and also strikingly intimate in its vulnerability.
Joining forces with producer Lachlan Carrick (Gotye, Lior) and co-producer Josh Barber (Gretta Ray, Gotye), Forster recorded in Barber’s converted 1860s chapel studio nestled in Victoria’s Goldfields region, transforming a series of creative retreats into what would ultimately become The Lonely.
The album is an anthology of songs about connection and disconnection, drawing on Forster’s experiences working at the intersection between music and mental health, and her own struggles with anxiety. And while exploring, observing and unravelling patterns of loneliness, it ultimately serves as a powerful collection of songs that reminds us all that we are not alone, expertly channelled through Forster’s personal lens.
“Vulnerability in art can be like mutual therapy of a kind, creating this connection where both the storyteller and the audience feel more seen and understood. Less uniquely broken, and less alone in their struggle. I’m hoping this album does that for people in the same way that some of my favourite albums have for me”, says Forster.
