Upland Chorus by d york
Seemingly every February in Charlotte, we have a brief warm up period. Despite the coldest January on record this year, the February thaw happened again. This activates upland chorus frogs at McAlpine Creek park who croak and sing. Ironically, you rarely if ever hear them again all year.
I have used field recordings of these frogs recorded while I'm walking twice before (you'll have to figure out which tracks 😉). This time, I tried something a little different musically. Rather than creating a single longform track for the lengthy field recording, I decided to break it up into four pieces. The same modular synth patch was used but modified for each track. Various synths round out the musical palette. Upland Chorus (Drone) is a reprise of sorts with a shorter frogs FR I recorded the same weekend. This track closes out the album in deep drone territory with my walking and the frogs relegated to the background.
I hope you enjoy these musical interludes accompanied by seldom heard amphibians who are otherwise unnoticed. We need to pay more attention to all the creatures on this planet. We are unwittingly impacting them by habitat destruction and human driven climate change.
