"Tigerstyle, the debut EP of fuzz-funk trio Easy There Tiger, has three speeds: crunchy, spacey, and groovy. Lead guitarist Jake Soffer calls this instrumental project 'a musical playground' — and it shows.
Dynamic and endlessly groovy, the release sets its diverse tone early with ‘Albatross' and 'Mongrel,' shifting from a twangy lake walk into a crunchy, bass-driven groove before letting off the gas with a dub-inspired break down. A perfect encapsulation of every vibe on the tracklist right out of the gate. They settle into more standard genre territory with middle tracks ‘Tigerstyle' and 'Pettytheft,' which ups the sass with pure groove and heavy, syncopated guitar. But just as you’re settling into expectations, the EP’s closer ('Me Likey') hits you in the face with some straight-up rock and roll.
Overall, Tigerstyle is a super solid freshman effort. At times, it feels like it doesn’t know exactly what it wants to sound like … and that’s not a bad thing. It's clear they don’t want to be pigeon-holed by any one genre or label and they have the chops to explore without sounding aimless.”
