several years ago i started using granular synthesis for creating some of my sounds. it worked quite well as an addition to the sounds i was using already. but it never really sounded as something to work with exclusively. however, since starting my exploits in modular synthesis i've acquired some modules capable of granulation and this changed my outlook a lot. because all of them have a unique approach to granular synthesis, they all have different qualities in dealing with granulation. i became quite absorbed in these differences and tried to blend them into sounds that suit my purposes. what i found interesting is that by chopping sounds up into tiny pieces, it's quite easy to create tapestries of sound, drones if you will. i have always been mesmerised by drone music, but never felt able to create it myself. somehow i didn't seem capable of creating the necessary sound material, until granulation came my may. that's when i started working on these tracks, creating soundscapes of woven granulated textures. i feel that this release is unlike much of my other work, which is much more constructed. it seems to have a more natural flow, which is exactly what i was looking for. but so much for technicalities.
on a more personal level i felt a need to submerge myself in the sounds i was producing, in a different way from my usual work. there was less need for utmost concentration and more for letting go, for getting lost in the music. this is probably a direct result of the state the world is in. this worries me a lot and sometimes i just need to get away from it. and this music helps, for a while.
