Trapped in a stone box
Reaching for dawn
As soon as I closed my eyes
You were gone

To feel for a rush
So your eyes glazed
As adhesive was brushed
In a thin layer
To be scoured and stripped
By the next round of spit
To find its way to my lips

With a chest so tight
I breathe you out again
Apprehension gives way
To a semblance of contentment
And I fall back
On a lie I might still live
When your pulse doesn’t race
You rely on what’s convenient

Whether the grip
Was all just a ruse
The tightness of hands
Holding nothing to lose
The passion’s a purposeless
Point of content
When you reach for truth
Comfort, stoic, circumvents

Fall away
