CONCIERTO AMISTAD (spanish for "concert of friendship") is a small record gathering songs by columbian and italian-rooted composer, arranger and clarinetist Eliana Cruz, a former student of the Conservatory Maastricht.
She is a great friend to many and a vivid member of the Maastricht community. She has suspended her studies due to a severe medical diagnosis. This record, performed by her friends and colleagues, as well as the event "Concierto Amistad" on Dec 4, 12-16.00, Bonnefantenstr. 15, is an effort to raise money for her expenses.
Eliana about her music:
"My music describes myself very well:
I am a dreamer, a romantic woman like in ‘InesperaDos’
I am dreamer because I believe in peace and social changes, like in ‘Mi sum’
I describe my hidden fears, sometimes my music takes the place of my mouth…. like in ‘1000 deseos’
I am dreamer but sometimes I don’t believe anymore, that’s the reason why I wrote ‘Premonicion'
I love my roots, like in 'Mi negro y Yo'"

Eliana about herself:
"I was born up in the Andes mountains of Colombia, in Duitama, a city of the historic Boyacá province. My musical education started at the “Escuela Superior de Musica de Tunja” when I was six years old. At the age of 16, I had the opportunity to work for the “Sinfonica de Vientos de Boyacá” as a Bass clarinet player for 4 years and in 1998 I decided to travel to Italy in order to explore the world and continue my musical formation.
In 2012 I received my first BA degree “Maestro in Clarinetto” from “Conservatorio di Musica Giuseppe Nicolini di Piacenza” in Italy under the guidance of the famous clarinet player, Professor Paolo Beltramini.
On April 27th 2015 I received my second BA degree “Diploma Accademico di I Livello in “Jazz Performances e Musiche del nostro tempo - Clarinetto“ from Conservatorio di Musica Giuseppe Nicolini di Piacenza in Italy, where I studied with the famous piano player, professor Umberto Petrin.
Currently, I am doing a BA in “Jazz Composing and Arrangement 3rd year” at “Conservatorium of Maastricht” in the Netherlands with the great Wolfgang Braun.
This year, I got the special opportunity to study a second BA program at “Conservatorium of Maastricht” in Wind Band Conducting with the prestigious teacher Pieter Jansen besides my Jazz Composing Studies.
I believe that music and the arts change society: they create a space for reflection and make human action beautiful and right. I want to use the power of music and poetry to enable true argumentation, so people discuss the things they don't in daily life. The inspiration of my musical ideas is violence against women, racial intolerance, migration, war, anti-mafia, homosexuality... My music gathers all these elements through folk, classical, and jazz sounds.
I love the simple things in life: Colombian coffee we call “tintico”, play soccer as goalkeeper, Italian food, Pierpaolo Pasolini’s movies. My favorite authors are Tiziano Terzani, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Ryszard Kapuściński, Vargas Llosa, Osvaldo Soriano, Sergio Ramazzotti, Sepulveda, Welsh, Borges, Dario Fo . I love the music of Irakere, Bollani, Toto la Momposina, Berio, R. Korsakov and many others."

Soy una Mujer que
... crea
... espera
