Emergence's new album Cage is the latest entrance in a musical line that bypasses the head entirely and goes for something deeper and harder to pin down - blue-eyed soul without the blue eyes, jazz-rock without the slickness, folk without the all-conquering love of the past, indie without the willingness to give in to the shifting edges of bleakness that make up the corners of our ever-changing world.
Now fuelled by a new, hard-hitting combo, and the boldly imaginative production and arrangements of The Paper Factory, Cage is an homage to the great clash that lies at the birth of all unities.
