henrietta pussycat by emochick99

most of my musical education came from my dad.
when i was a kid, we had a very simple game we would play together: we would lay on my bed, prop our legs up on the wall, stare up at my glow-in-the-dark stick-on stars, and he would proceed to meow the tune of a song, which i then had to guess. i would then meow a song back, and he would have to guess. back and forth. i learned a lot of songs this way.
i don't know why we did this, but it probably arose from his lifelong habit of doing an impression of henrietta pussycat from mr rogers neighborhood

long before i came into this world, he was meowing offhandedly to himself as henrietta. the most infamous case of this was when he was at a museum and said "poor Kepler, meow meow..." in response to learning that Kepler had lost his family from plague in the thirty years war. he has left me countless voicemails as henrietta over the years

i have a lot in common with henrietta pussycat. we both love to dress up, we're both very shy and deeply insecure, and we both suffer from extreme abandonment issues and bouts of unfounded jealousy and anger. we also both meow meow

this album isnt necessarily a tribute to my dad, nor a tribute to henrietta herself. if anything it's an expression of one of the most important traits i inherited from him - a natural tendency to be kinda obnoxious. whatever instinct he has that drives him to meow asides was clearly passed onto me, a sort of intuitive need to be annoying

actually i just made that part up after the fact. not a conscious decision. but that sounds kinda good so just roll with it :)
