Tsunamis are huge and powerful ocean waves.
They are very dangerous!
People’s homes can get washed away!

Most tsunamis are caused by earthquakes
Volcanic eruptions, and when the glaciers break off
A meteor or an asteroid,
A landslide can cause it too
When a large amount of water is suddenly moved
They can move quickly
And can travel for thousands of miles
Some tsunamis have reached 100 feet high!

If a tsunami is coming what should we do?
Listen carefully

Before a tsunami hits animals might behave strangely
If you see them running for higher ground
You should follow right behind them
There are many types of warning signs
A sudden sea level change
A strong or long earthquake,
Or if you hear a loud roar from the ocean,

A siren, emergency alert calls, t.v. and radio warnings
It means you need to go immediately
To higher ground or inland

Bring your cell phone and bring a first aid kit with you
Follow evacuation signs
