tetraviolets by Found Objects of Desire + Sundog
This 5th collaborative song set between Arianna (Starriari) and Sundog (Clark L Trujillo) comes around the 20th anniversary of the "Sea Floor Spreading" album by "teravioles", Arianna's pre-Found Objects project.
While Sea Floor Spreading's original release was obscured during a difficult time (2002-3), elements in it echo through the present day as memories of empowered expressions of our (Ari's and Adeeba's) youth manifest and recycle in situations in our adult lives.
Singing in tunnels of beautiful, historic mountain passes, experiencing music scenes in other continents, then returning to our current home cities to work to keep up and find about "something missing" as acts of violence, destruction, and culture wars rage and remind -- these set the foundation for this "old shelter" reMade and reModeled.
This album begins with a new piece built from ambient recordings in two tunnels, one in California and one in Virginia, where Sundog's and Arianna's voices reverberate, chanting back and forth across the land mass. (The original version of this piece is now placed at the end.)
Curious exploration flows into fear and longing in rural and urban lives, a loose story told in different voices, looking back on the past era into the present. "My Spirit Haunts These Woods" is a sort of allegory for Found Objects of Desire as a musical project, while also referencing "Return to the Haunted Wasteland" from 2001.
"Machinettes," a teravioles favorite, lives on in "Bombless" while "The Porous Chorus" is based on "Any Minute Now", both originally from "Sea Floor Spreading." "Blistered Lotus" is a remodel of "Blistered Eternal Love Lies Above (B.E.L.L.A.) from "If by Thread.." (2021), and references to "No Gap Deep Enough" (2018) are present in "My Spirit Haunts These Woods" and "Two Tunnels."
"Tetraviolets" is the original name of the project which became "teravioles" in late 2000, intentionally obscured then but which now demands translucence. It's an imagined garden of earthly delight (and delirium), of flowers regrown by the seeds of our past and also of our stars.
