Manchester-based producer Fthmlss has rapidly built a name for himself stitching together curious beats that traverse lofi, downtempo and hip hop styles. He has become a staple of Hip Hop and Beats Spotify Editorial playlists and his unique productions are always musically rich, playing like ethereal vignettes from a different world.
Since joining Asta Hiroki’s Folded Music imprint with his EP ‘Anxious’ he has quickly accumulated support from some huge names across radio and press including BBC 6Music, FIP, Radio Eins, XLR8R, Magnetic Mag, and College Music.
Via six new tracks he continues his sonic explorations with a central theme of the ‘Observer’ - an entity moving through time and space, learning and watching without interaction.
New sonic influences from electronica and ambient spheres of music have been brought in, while a change of equipment and more hardware incorporated his recording and mixing setup has clearly helped shape the productions in an exciting new direction, evolving his trademark lofi and downtempo infused signature.
Spanning modern electronic hip hop a la the positive and glitch laden opener ‘Idyllic’, through the bittersweet and soulful vocal-led refrains of the single ‘Kayawa’, the blissful ambient soundscapes of ‘Alude’, and the more recognisable lofi tones of the title track, it is clear that Fthmlss is stretching his artistic boundaries further than ever before.
The strength of his ideas and breadth of imagination present in this EP shows that he’s more than capable of operating in any style, and it seems this release will only enhance his already burgeoning reputation further.
FTHMLSS is an electronic music producer carving out his own lane in the scene. Once known for crafting laid-back lo-fi beats, he's now shifting gears and diving headfirst into the high-energy, club-focused side of electronic music.
