[EN] Steve Lacy's record is precious for several reasons, as it is the only one to feature his first Parisian quintet. The trumpeter Ambrose Jackson, who came to Paris with Otis Redding in 1966, and drummer Jerome Cooper, who arrived with Roland Kirk in 1970, would soon be replaced by Steve Potts and Noel McGhie; the overall sound would be modified. Here, in a blend of audacity and balance, we discover themes that Lacy would revisit and rework later on.

[FR] Le disque de Steve Lacy est également précieux à plus d’un titre, car il s’agit du seul à présenter son premier quintette parisien. Le trompettiste Ambrose Jackson, passé à Paris avec Otis Redding en 1966, et le batteur Jerome Cooper, venu avec Roland Kirk en 1970, allaient en effet bientôt laisser leur place à Steve Potts et à Noel McGhie ; la couleur d’ensemble en serait modifiée. On découvre ici, dans un mélange d’audace et d’équilibre, des thèmes que Lacy reprendra et retravaillera plus tard.
