"I’ve never written songs about my identity before now, despite Future Teens being so integral to me embracing myself as an out, visibly trans man. I grew up in the church in a small city in Missouri where I was ridiculed for not adhering to expectations of girlhood, and other kids’ parents speculated about my gender and sexuality long before I had any idea what those words meant. I protected myself by refusing to let anyone see it affect me - and burying it all until I couldn’t anymore. Double Down is the song about trans joy that I needed when I was a girl wondering why I couldn’t make myself feel like one, and I hope it can be a similar balm for anyone else that might need it”- Amy Hoffman
