Answer: Captain America
• The Captain America bike was a highly customized Harley-Davidson Hydra Glide, originally from 1951. It was chopped, stretched, and customized into that long-forked, freedom-screaming beast you see in Easy Rider (1969).
• Cliff Vaughs and Ben Hardy, two Black custom bike builders out of L.A., actually built the bikes — though they were never credited in the film. True underground legends.
• Four bikes were built for the film: two “Captain Americas” and two “Billy Bikes” (Dennis Hopper’s ride). Only one Captain America was used for most of the film — the rest were backups.
• The original Captain America bike was stolen right after filming wrapped. Rumor has it it was stripped down and parted out — poetic, really. One backup bike was later restored and now lives in museums and private collections.
Meditational metal, motivational metal, stoner suite, desert metal, chopper music
