there was this waterway
i had a dream about
such a gentle wind
that pushed you down

in a little gondola
wearing a look like
you've been talking your entire life
and the silence is wine

little lantern flickers all about your face
against a dark so vast you can barely stay awake
but you do
and there's a warmth to you too

all the coiling, sleeping sounds
of a european town
dimming to a silent, black veil
but you glow loud

the water is an absence now
and the stars are below you
and they keep you afloat
you're the only cloud this clearest night allowed

there was this waterway
i had a dream about
that wound like my life
through this darkened town

and a clearing came
night glistened into me from every side
starlight sprinkled through my limpwrist mind
and your light led

i caught up to you
a million miles beyond
whatever doom i thought i'd got

you smiled
and held my hand
i may have cried a little
oh if i'd have known how easy it was at the end

there was this waterway
that i went through
at the lovely end of which
i found you
