Velodrone by Ghosts Of Breslau

This piece was composed specifically for "Zmysłowy Welodrom" (Sensuous Velodrome), a June 2023 event curated by RuszTenBeton at the historic velodrome in Wrocław. Built in 1929, the structure stands as one of the last surviving fragments of old Breslau - an architectural ghost that spoke to me the moment I arrived.

I wandered its perimeter with a recorder in hand, collecting fragments of the acoustic ecology: the wind threading through trees, birds calling across the hum of distant traffic, laughter from passing cyclists, the subtle mechanical rhythms of wheels on concrete. The place had its own pulse, its own weather. I let it all seep in.

There was a sense of circularity, of something recurring - an idea that echoed Eternal Return, or perhaps just the looping geometry of the track itself. That sensation became the foundation of the music.

When the time came, those gathered at the velodrome donned headphones and entered into this sonic space. No spectacle, just deep listening. Now it’s your turn...

Breslau was the German name of Wroclaw, a city in southwestern Poland, Lower Silesia. The XXth century and especially the events of both World Wars left strong marks in the spirit of this city.
